Identification and history

The inspection begins by matching the VIN on the body, plates and documents. Registration status, provenance and any available history of sales, maintenance and damage are reviewed.

For imported cars, archival photos and records are sought, but the absence of data in a single database does not mean incidents did not occur.

Bodywork, geometry and safety

Paint thickness measurements are complemented by an inspection of gaps, fasteners, welds, sealant, floor, pillars and longitudinal members. The goal is to distinguish cosmetic repainting from significant structural repair.

Seatbelts, warning indicators, airbags and any available safety module data are checked. A disabled warning lamp or improperly restored system is a critical risk.

Engine, transmission and cooling

Cold start, noises, smoke, leaks, temperatures and fluid condition are assessed. The transmission is tested in various modes for absence of shocks, delays and fault messages.

In Dubai, the cooling system and air conditioning are particularly important. Signs of overheating, poor climate performance or non-standard repairs require further diagnostics.

Diagnostics and electronics

Available control units are scanned, current and stored fault codes are recorded, and system readiness is checked. Simply clearing codes does not resolve the underlying cause.

Infotainment, cameras, radars, seats, windows, lights, charging, driver assists and keys are tested. On a premium vehicle, a minor electronic fault can be expensive to fix.

Lift inspection and test drive

On the lift, leaks, underbody damage, suspension and exhaust issues and signs of non-standard repairs are inspected. For low cars, the lower parts of bumpers and protective covers are checked separately.

The test drive reveals braking, steering, vibrations, noises, gear changes and system performance under load. If a test drive is prohibited, this is recorded as a limitation.

Report and purchase decision

The report includes photos and videos, measurements, fault codes, a list of findings and their priority: critical, requires prompt repair, or cosmetic. Where possible, a cost range is indicated.

A sample conclusion should answer three questions: is it safe to buy, what negotiation terms are justified, and what reserve should be set aside after the deal.
